It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death yesterday morning
of our good friend John Hannon ('53). John had been sharing my home
in Boulder, Colorado since his retirement 3 years ago from E-Systems
in Greenville, Texas.
Yesterday we had breakfast and started a beautiful day by flying
a couple of antique airplanes about 40 miles up to Ft. Collins.
John took some pictures of me flying the Waco. We landed in a beautiful
grass runway. Afterward we chatted about the great flight we had
just made. I took his picture standing by my Waco. Shortly after
that we found him on the ground where he had fallen.
Gerald Gates, a mutual friend, and I gave CPR until the paramedics
arrived. He never recovered and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Hawaiians have a word, Kopono. It means lifelong friend. I will
miss John terribly. There will be a memorial gathering of the friends
of John Hannon at my home on June 23 at 2 PM to celebrate John's
life and memories.
